Dr. Peter Pronovost, MD, PhD, FCCM

Dr. Peter Pronovost currently serves as University Hospitals Cleveland, Chief Clinical Transformation Officer. He is an internationally recognized researcher, physician, and author. Through his work at University Hospitals and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Peter has transformed healthcare with clear evidenced-based solutions to improve patient safety in hospitals and across public health. Pronovost is a longtime patient safety pioneer and scientist and has published over 800 articles and chapters on patient safety, public health and costs reduction. By developing protocol tools that greatly improve patient safety and care, Peter was named one of the “most influential people” by TIME Magazine.

Peter is an advisor to the World Health Organization’s World Alliance for Patient Safety and has been featured on CNN and PBS and in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and other prestigious media outlets. He won several national awards for his research including the prestigious John Eisenberg Patient Safety Research Award and was named a winner of a MacArthur Fellowship, nicknamed the “genius grant,” which recognizes recipients for their creativity, originality, and potential to make important contributions in the future.

Peter served as Senior Vice President for Clinical Strategy and Chief Medical Officer for UnitedHealthcare. He served 20 years at Johns Hopkins Medicine, most recently as Senior Vice President for Patient Safety and Quality and the founder and director of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality.
