Dr. Jerry Stonemetz

Dr. Jerry Stonemetz serves as Medical Director of the Center for Perioperative Optimization for the Johns Hopkins Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.  He previously served as Vice Chairman of Clinical Operations at Johns Hopkins, National Medical Director of Anesthesia Services for HCA (Hospital Corp of America) and is a nationally recognized expert in anesthesia information management systems.   He is the editor for the first published textbook on anesthesia informatics and is a frequent speaker and Grand Rounds lecturer for numerous associations and medical universities. 

In his tenure at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Stonemetz has advanced data analysis to identify achievable improvements in operating room efficiencies, overseen the deployment of robots, tripling the number of robotic surgeries, and was the primary architect for the management of surgical services during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Jerry specializes in the use of data for demonstration of safety, quality and productivity metrics, and the use or modification of existing clinical systems to capture these metrics.  He has extensive expertise in operating room management, systems integration, contract development and negotiation, physician compensation and billing/coding/compliance programs for anesthesia departments and post-integration clinical operations.  Dr. Stonemetz has a Green Belt in Lean Sigma for Operating Room Measures and has been trained as a Serving Leader.
